On this channel, I talk a lot about my decisions as an author to have my books available anywhere readers can find great books. While Amazon through KDP and ACX offers programs to tempt authors into an exclusive contract, I don’t do that. Roughly half of my sales each year come from outside of Amazon. So I’m not leaving their platforms any time soon, but I’m happy to have other income streams.
So as a conscientious reader, where can you get books if you are opting to not purchase from Amazon? Maybe you don’t like the actions that leadership in the company has taken. Maybe you want to be more intentional with your dollars and see it go back to locally owned businesses.
Whatever the reason, today I’ll be breaking down for readers where they can get books that are outside the Amazon ecosystem, and authors pay attention, because I’ll also let you know which platforms can get you there.
Let’s dive into the ways that you as a reader can spend your dollars in a way that supports small businesses while still getting the books you love:
