Effective August 1, 2025 (so a few months from now), Authors can distribute their audiobooks directly to Spotify via Spotify for Authors. Findaway Voices has been sold to INAudio, so they will be a big-wide distributor for audio.
You have questions. I did, too. I have been able to chat with the Spotify team and my main contacts with Findaway since before the acquisition in 2023. Here’s what you need to know.
If you already have audiobooks for sale via Findaway Voices AND you were distributing to Spotify (why wouldn’t you be?), you should now have the ability to log in to Spotify for Authors and see your books there. You can’t upload a book there yet, though. You can still log into Findaway Voices. On August 1, that link will redirect to a dashboard at INAudio. The teams are working on the backend to have this be seamless.
Let’s say you were planning to make an update. Like you’re gonna have new covers made. Any edits you need to make prior to the switch over, do that in Findaway Voices. If you need to upload a new book. Do that in Findaway Voices.
What if you don’t want a separate login for Spotify? You’re fine having one login for it all. You don’t want two logins and two 1099s. If that is what you want, do nothing. Don’t log in to Spotify for Authors to set up an account. INAudio will still distribute to Spotify, just like Author’s Republic currently distributes to Spotify. However, when you are distributing through the aggregator, you do pay the fee on each sale. So if you want simplicity and one login, do nothing. If you want to earn more on each Spotify sale, set up your Spotify for Authors page.
Starting in August, if you want to have that direct control for Spotify audio sales and still access the whole network you currently do with Findaway, you’ll upload to both Spotify for Authors and INAudio separately.
What was once one company will now be two.
What about my current promotions?
If you’ve already generated your 100 Spotify redemption codes on Findaway Voices, they are still available on Spotify for Authors. (And they still show which ones were redeemed.)
If you have scheduled promotions for early August (like I was planning to do for The Infinite-Infinite), those should all still be in effect. Double-check on August 2nd or 3rd. It should all be done on August 1. But it’s technology. Expect a glitch or two. Give it a minute.
Findaway Voices, your current login will NOT be accessible on July 31st. Mark it on your calendar. Don’t try to log in. Don’t try to upload. Don’t even upload that whole week, because you know you’re gonna find an issue with the cover art or a typo in your description, and inevitably it’s gonna be on July 31st.
Also, who is this new company, INAudio, and do they even know audiobooks? Or self-publishing? Or what do authors need? So, back when Spotify acquired Findaway Voices, there were inevitable personnel changes. I don’t know if people were let go or left on their own to do something else. But many of the original team from Findaway Voices now work for INAudio, so they know the territory.
