I try to only do these twice a year because I want every video on this channel to be helpful to you, but it is my channel. And I like to keep you all updated on what I’m doing behind the scenes. So, here goes.
-I had a goal to go out and about to make more in-person writing connections. I’ve been to TWO writer’s hour meet-ups at Book and Bottle. So check. But I’d always love more time to invest in really cultivating in person writer relationships.
-Rebrand for AYA: it’s a fancy way of saying I’m giving the first four books a facelift. New covers. And new formatted interiors. For those of you who watch every video, you’ll remember last year that my very clever plan to transfer my existing books to their own thumbdrives failed spectacularly when those drives were all junk and my files were corrupted. So I was either going to let them die a slow and painful death as they became less and less accurate as more changes happened in the self-publishing world. Or I could reformat them. And hey, while it’s open for edits, let’s correct some recent changes in the industry and make these better. So that is in progress. I will have videos on the process, who I am working with, and any software coming soon.
-I’m going to focus on doing more in-person events later this year and in 2026. So if you know of any, send them my way.
-I start the top of each video mentioning that this channel is about being an author and a mompreneur, but I don’t talk about the mom part very often. So much of being a mom is time with my child, and then there is less time for me to be myself or to be with my husband or my friends. And I’ve prided myself in my ability to stick to my business. But really, I’ve been in the passenger seat the past few years. Those who get my newsletter already know this, but I have kept things in stasis. And this year, more than ever, I’ve realized that what I assumed wouldn’t work for my business might. What I assumed I couldn’t afford to invest in, I can. What didn’t work or wasn’t available to me a decade ago might be possible now. So, because of a lack of a better term, I’m leaning back into my author business again. As my daughter is more independent and starting VPK in the fall, I will have more time, and with that, I have a plan for how I’m going to use that time.
