I left you guys on the weakest cliffhanger last week, but this video was getting too long, so it’s two now.

Because if you are subscribed to my newsletter OR follow me on Instagram, you already know about this news which is my debut Romance book has a deal. And today I’m going to open the door a little bit to show you what it was like on Submission.

So I had every intention of providing occasional updates. But …
I kept a lot of updates in a submission vlog for Heifer. That I likely won’t show. I was so optimistic. I was unrealistically optimistic. And then when I didn’t get exactly what I wanted, I was crushed. I had a real soul-searching moment and funk. And then I was like, oh, I have an agent and they are asking me for my next idea. They want to work with me, and I can’t waste this opportunity because I’m being a brat. But I will stillbe hesitant to document everything again.

Also, in my mind, I wasn’t going to ask for an update from Isabel for 8 weeks. What I heard about sub is that even in the magical unicorn scenarios, the editor reads it the second it hits their inbox and loves it, it can take 6 weeks. Between second reads, and getting on the docket for the acquisitions meeting. So when I did reach out at 8 weeks, the responses were mixed, with no action for a revision. So it was sitting tight a bit longer.

So, at mid-May, I had some irons in the fire. I was already mid-project on the Author Your Ambition book relaunc,h so I wanted to give her a heads up. Hey, I’m self-pubbing this, but it was already self-pubbed, so, shouldn’t be an issue. There were some opportunities I saw that I wanted them to vet for me. So I sent a novel of an email with all my questions/updates in it. And I heard back on May 23.

First Offer: May 23, 2025, about 3.5 months on sub. Now we’re on offer, and my agent is working to see if other editors want to make a counteroffer. Because we haven’t had a chance to talk about my pitches for my third book with them, that’s on the back burner until we get this book sorted out.

Deal Memo Finalized: June 24, 2025. In a month between we have an offer. Sit tight, and we have a deal memo. Let’s get to work.

From what I’ve heard, that is a bananas turn around on having the deal and the deal being announced. I was thinking it would be November or even early next year. This was really exciting, and I can’t wait to share more about the process with you!!
