- The ASIN is an inventory number that Amazon assigns to ALL items sold on its website. Everything listed on Amazon has an ASIN (eBook, print book, jewelry, clothes, gardening tools)
- ISBN is specific to the book and format. One book can have an eBook and a paperback format. That is two distinct ISBNs that are needed.
- Amazon says eBooks don’t need ISBNs on their site when published via KDP. Because they assign an ASIN. However, if you look at any traditionally published books, the eBooks have ISBNs.
When you publish the print book via KDP with your own ISBN, that ISBN that you own and input to KDP will be assigned to that print book AND it will have an ASIN to identify it on Amazon.
Everything on Amazon has an ASIN. That’s why your book has an ASIN.
