Thoughts on the NEW Library of Congress PCN Website

In the past I have talked about the Library of Congress and their PCN or Publisher Control Number program. The program has been great, it has been free, and easy to use. But the website recently had an overhaul so I wanted to give you all an update.

The old system always estimated a 6 week turn around, but it usually took me one week to get a response.. This was a free application and it ensures that you book can be cataloged in libraries.
New system is much more user-friendly, much more web 2.0 than web 1.0

They have a very clear note on the main page for the LOC PCN program that any self-publishers who had received PCNs in the old system were not migrated over to the new system. I did send in a request to have my PCN and LCCNs migrated over. I was told that the LOC was not doing this, but also that is was not necessary.
I received my LCCN within 3 business days.

So this was still easy to do and painless. But, always plan ahead. Don’t assume because I got my LCCN back in 3 business days that you will as well. Heed their timelines.

Have a great day and now you can get back to writing your book!
