Does my eBook need a Barcode? | Self-Publishing an eBook | eBook ISBNs #shorts

Barcodes are for physical products. Like this bag of almonds. Toothpaste. Labels. And yes print books.

So if you only have a digital edition of your book – eBook or audiobook – you don’t need a barcode.

Your print books will need a barcode. Most self-publishing platforms will provide a barcode. Your ISBN will show on the barcode, but remember BARCODES ARE NOT ISBNS. ISBNS ARE NOT BARCODES. When you get the free barcode the price of your book won’t be on it. If you want the price on your barcode them you need to purchase a barcode.

Your eBook will need an ISBN. Because again: BARCODES ARE NOT ISBNS. ISBNS ARE NOT BARCODES.
