For anyone who is new here, I am super frugal. I will DIY and try to spend as little as I can and get crafty with how to promote my books on a budget. This has definitely hurt me in the past. I need to view my expenses as investments in my books. Especially as my backlist grows. I’ve been self-publishing since 2015. I have 5 self-published novels, 2 novellas, 4 self-publishing guides, and my mack daddy workbook. Backlist maintenance to keep that collection of books selling as I write new books, is becoming a bigger and bigger job and a larger part of my time. So if I can find tools that HELP, I’m all about it.
I’ve heard about publisher rocket for years. And when I was starting out, it was less expensive, but compared to my royalty income, it was pricey. Now that I have a larger backlist, I knew it was the right time to invest. I really should be updating my keywords and book descriptions much more frequently than I have been. I signed up for publisher rocket earlier this year and went through all of my backlist to search for new keywords, to make sure the categories were up to date because Amazon changes those from time to time, and I updated all of my books. It took time, but having this tool to show me which keywords were going to be worth my time to test, was so so so helpful!
You can use this to find keywords for Amazon Ads as well. I like the competitor analysis tool too. Not to try to knock someone out of their ranking, but to see – hey maybe I could collab with this author and do a “if you liked this, read that” type cross promotion. Or, thinking of my original book Nailbiters, the comps for that book that I use now are totally different then when it came out in 2015, because more books and shows have come out that are a better comparison to it.
